We have produced litters with a very light coats by using a very light colored male (what many call an English Cream bit still just a golden), medium colored American Golden’s and even dark red field lines. The AKC recognizes 3 coat colors in the breed, and those are light, medium, and dark golden. We do have puppies that vary in coat color but we do not guarantee any color of the puppy as they age. We try to produce healthy and well socialized dogs, and as close to breed standard as possible, and although certain colors are sought after, it’s not our main importance. The coat color of a dog doesn’t make the dog a better dog, maybe more attractive in some people’s eyes, but not our main goal. We do try to have some lighter or darker ones for those that prefer those colors, on occasion, but as they age they can darken in color. I always tell people to look at the tip of the puppies ears and that’s a good indication of what the coat color will be on the adult dog. The coat color and fullness of the dogs coat wont be apparent and full length until the dog is closer to the age of 2 or completely mature.
